Once the download is complete, launch the PlayStation®5 version of FINAL FANTASY XIV from the FINAL FANTASY XIV game screen.
The Home World Transfer Service cannot be used under the following circumstances: Your character has been transferred from Version 1.0, but has not logged into a World since the start of official service for FINAL FANTASY XIV. Your character has yet to complete the quest Close to Home.

All the Final Fantasy games with numbers are all seperate from each other storywise. I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII, XIII, XIV, and XV are completely separate and unconnected universes. All the abbreviated names are connected.

The game also suffers from a big tonal shift in comparison to the other games in the series. Some people don’t like the more angst filled characters and story and feels it takes itself to too seriously where Final Fantasy has traditionally been more positive.
It’s an unfinished mess that may have ruined this series forever with its terrible “features” like paid story DLC, in-game ads, and especially dumbed down RPG elements, fragmented story and piss poor action combat so as to appeal to as many players as possible. Final Fantasy 9 is an incredible game, and one regularly voted as one of the best titles in the series. It feels as though it deserves to be invoked with the same hushed tones as reverence and Final Fantasy 6 and 7; it is among the most holy.
